About us

YourEstateVault is operated by Dhillon Stevens Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 04926420). References to “YourEstateVault”, “we”, “us”, or “our” in these Terms refer to Dhillon Stevens Ltd. Our registered office address is available upon request by contacting [email protected].

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using YourEstateVault (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Dhillon Stevens Ltd (trading as YourEstateVault).

2. Description of the Service

YourEstateVault is a personal estate document record-keeping and organisation application. It allows you to store, organise, and share information about your personal, financial, and legal affairs with trusted contacts and executors. All vault contents are encrypted using AES-256-GCM encryption directly in your browser before being transmitted to our servers. Our servers only ever store ciphertext — we cannot read the plaintext contents of your vaults.

The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use. It is not a substitute for professional legal, financial, or estate planning advice. We strongly recommend that you consult a qualified solicitor or financial adviser for matters relating to Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and estate planning.

YourEstateVault is not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and does not provide regulated financial advice or services. Nothing in the Service constitutes financial advice, investment advice, or any other regulated activity under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

3. Account registration

To use the Service, you must create an account using our authentication provider. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect any unauthorised use of your account.

You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

4. Subscriptions and billing

Certain features of the Service are available only to subscribers on a paid plan (“Personal Pro” or “Business Pro”). Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. All prices are stated in pounds sterling (GBP) and include VAT where applicable.

Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. You may cancel your subscription at any time via the billing portal accessible from the Subscription page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; no refunds are issued for partial periods unless required by applicable law.

We reserve the right to change subscription prices with 30 days’ notice. Continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

5. Free tier

A free tier is available that provides access to three vaults (Personal Identity, Final Wishes, and Personal Messages), AES-256 encryption, and PIN lock. The free tier does not include executor tools, the Dead Man’s Switch, or the five additional paid vaults. We reserve the right to modify the features included in the free tier at any time with reasonable notice.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
  • Use the Service to store or transmit malicious code.
  • Resell, sublicence, or otherwise commercially exploit the Service without our prior written consent.
  • Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

7. Data, privacy, and account deletion

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Your vault data is stored on our servers as AES-256-GCM ciphertext (encrypted in your browser before transmission). While we maintain robust infrastructure and backups, we recommend that you periodically create an Offline Archive export of your vault as an additional safeguard. We are not liable for any loss of vault data resulting from circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Account deletion: You may permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time by navigating to Settings → Account Settings → Danger Zone and selecting “Delete account”. You will be asked to confirm by typing your registered email address. Upon confirmation, your account, subscription record, Dead Man’s Switch settings, and all encrypted vault data are deleted immediately from our servers. A GDPR-compliant confirmation email is sent to your registered address. This action is permanent and cannot be undone. We recommend downloading an Offline Archive from the Offline Archive page before proceeding if you wish to retain a local copy of your vault data.

If you are unable to access your account and wish to request deletion by email, please contact [email protected]. We will action the request and confirm deletion within 30 days.

8. Dead Man’s Switch

The Dead Man’s Switch feature sends an automated email to a nominated executor if you fail to check in within your chosen interval. By activating this feature, you confirm that you have obtained the consent of the nominated executor to receive such emails. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the executor email address you provide. We are not liable for any failure to deliver notifications due to incorrect email addresses, spam filters, or email service outages.

The Dead Man’s Switch is a notification tool only. It does not constitute legal authority for your executor to act on your behalf. You should ensure that your executor has the appropriate legal authority (such as a Lasting Power of Attorney or a Grant of Probate) to act on your estate.

9. Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights in the Service, including its design, software, and content (excluding your vault data), are owned by or licensed to YourEstateVault. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for personal purposes in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

The Service is not a legal document preparation service. Any templates, guides, or checklists provided within the Service are for informational purposes only and do not constitute legal advice.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, YourEstateVault shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising under or in connection with these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if you breach these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use of the Service poses a risk to other users or to the integrity of the Service. You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Account Settings → Danger Zone. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending an email to your registered address. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Contact
